What exactly is the difference between an industrial Ethernet switch and an ordinary switch? In terms of performance, there is actually not much difference between an industrial Ethernet switch and an ordinary switch. Looking at network layers, there are Layer 2 switches, and of course Layer 3 switches as well. Industrial Ethernet switches are particular about their product design and component selection. They are built for the needs of industrial sites and can continue to operate normally under harsh mechanical, climatic, and electromagnetic conditions, so they are widely used in industrial production scenarios with relatively harsh conditions.
Components
Industrial Ethernet switches have higher requirements for component selection, so that they can better adapt to the demands of industrial production sites. Mechanical Environment
Industrial Ethernet switches adapt better to harsh mechanical environments, including resistance to vibration, impact, and corrosion, as well as dust and water protection. Industrial Ethernet: corrugated high-strength metal housing; ordinary switch: standard metal housing.
Climatic Environment
Industrial Ethernet switches adapt better to poor climatic environments, including temperature and humidity. Industrial Ethernet operating temperature: -40~125°C; ordinary switch operating temperature: -40~75°C.
Electromagnetic Environment
Industrial Ethernet switches have strong resistance to electromagnetic interference.
Operating Voltage
Industrial Ethernet switches have a wide operating voltage range, while ordinary switches have stricter voltage requirements.
Power Supply Design
Ordinary switches almost always use a single power supply, while industrial switches generally use dual power supplies that back each other up.
Installation Method
Industrial Ethernet switches can be installed on DIN rails, in racks, and so on, while ordinary switches are generally rack-mounted or desktop.

Cooling Method
Industrial Ethernet switches generally use fanless housing cooling, while ordinary switches use fan cooling.
